August, 2008
Dear Burr Ridge C.C.S.D. 180 Parents,
As a new school year is about to begin, we are excited about the positive opportunities we are able to offer to your family. We have had a full summer of planning and organizing to get ready for the start of the year and we are ready to go.
The 2008-09 school year is an important year for your child, as is every year of development, and it is no different for our district. This year, our goals as a school district remain largely unchanged:
• Improving student achievement,
• Creating a safe and productive school climate,
• Serving the needs of all of our students,
• Efficient management practices.
To accomplish these goals, we will need your help as our partner and teammate in helping your child learn. This is even more important as we begin this year after having to make some difficult financial cuts last year.
As a result of the “no” vote on the February referendum, there will be less teacher or aide help in these larger classes to assist struggling students and challenge the most gifted. Teachers will be provided with less planning time for the creation of engaging lesson plans and cultivation of parent contacts.
In order to keep our quality educational programs, have lower class size and maintain and improve our student assistance programs, we need additional funds. A successful referendum would make it possible to bring back some programs (like full-day kindergarten), prevent even more positions being eliminated, and restore our children’s educational experience.
The PTC is collecting names of volunteers now for the next referendum campaign. Please send a note or call the school office if you are interested in volunteering. You can also register to vote at both schools.
In spite of these challenges, we are optimistic about our school year and know that every child will receive an outstanding educational experience. We look forward to working together with you to provide your children with the best possible learning environment.
Please do not hesitate to contact any administrator or me should you need any additional information.
Thanks,
Tom Schneider, Ed. D.
Superintendent
